Kimmel Scholarship Awards $46,000 to Students in Construction
August 2008 -- Asheville, NC - Kimmel & Associates, the leading executive search firm specializing in the construction industry, is pleased to announce the awarding of the $1000 that is given to winners of the Kimmel & Associates Scholarship for Students in Construction. For the Fall 2008 semester, Kimmel selected 46 students from hundreds of applicants to receive the award, a $1000 prize which will be deposited into each recipient’s college account for the upcoming semester.
Long-established relationships with construction companies with whom Kimmel works led Kimmel and Associates to understand that a deep concern held by builders in the United States is the decline in enrollment at colleges in construction programs.
Charlie Kimmel, the President of Kimmel & Associates, says the company acted on that concern: “We sensed among those builders a deep anxiety that they may fall behind in finding the next generation of people who will build the structures where we live, work, and gather. It’s our joy to be able to help address that concern.”
The Kimmel & Associates Scholarship for Students in Construction was started in 2004 to encourage college students to consider construction as a career, and offers financial assistance toward that noble end. Through the Fall Semester of 2008, Kimmel & Associates has awarded 323 scholarships to students at 100 colleges and universities in 39 states across the United States, including Purdue University, Texas A & M, Iowa State, Western Carolina, and many other schools.
Students in a program such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related major that leads to the construction industry are eligible to apply for the Scholarship; Kimmel is taking applications now through December 1, 2008 for consideration to receive the Spring 2009 Scholarship.
Applications can be found at kimmel.com by accessing the Construction homepage and then finding the correct tab or the link on the right side of the homepage. The application form is brief and must be supplemented by a call-in recommendation from a construction professional and an up-to-date transcript.
